During my teens I focused on sports and lost my connection with yoga. Over this time I developed eating disorders, depression and insomnia. After a bad series of leg injuries, I (re)turned to yoga for healing, and found a way to counter my negative mind patterns through daily self-practice. My yoga journey was enriched by a Sivananda Vedanta IYA certified yoga instructor course in Vrindavan, India. I then taught Hatha yoga classes in Grahamstown, South Africa, for several years whilst completing my postgraduate qualifications at Rhodes University to a diverse range of students, elderly, beginners and more advanced yogis.
In 2012 I travelled to Mysore and trained in a traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga shala. I incorporate teachings from this experience, as well my intuitive body and mind awareness into my unique style of yoga practice. I was based in Durban from 2014 - 2016, where I specialised in private classes for clients of all ages with specific ailments and needs. In this time I volunteered for the Township Yogi Project, teaching yoga at a TB Clinic in Inanda township. This focused instruction deepened my knowledge of the many health benefits of yoga, and refined my attention to alignment and posture. Moreover, it moulded my understanding of daily practice as an expression of gratitude for our vital being and a practical means to restore this vitality.
Since 2017, I have focused my energies on sharing yoga and meditation through travel experiences around the world. Throughout the year, I teach and lead on yoga retreats in handpicked, gorgeous destinations for the San-Francisco based yoga travel business, Exotic Yoga Retreats.
After over a decade of teaching and running yoga businesses, I now offer specialist copy and marketing services in the yoga and wellness industry under the brand umbrella, YOGICOMM. My clients include:
Exotic Yoga Retreats - San Francisco based yoga travel business, who I both teach yoga for throughout the year on luxury retreats around the world, and deliver marketing services for.
Tripaneer - the Amsterdam-based tech start-up and online platform for travel experience bookings.
I just finished a detoxifying yoga retreat led by Nina at Brookdale. I've been absent from yoga for many years and this was an excellent reintroduction. Nina is a kind and generous teacher that will guide you back to the beauty of yoga - no matter your level! Loved it!
Nina is an exceptionally talented yogi herself and a generous, accepting, encouraging and patient instructor! She is also able to handle many different ability levels in one class so that everyone feels they have achieved their goals.
Nina is a superb yoga instructor... I attended her classes for just under 2 years whilst studying in Grahamstown. I always looked forward to my weekly sessions with her and nowhere else was I able to achieve such deep states of relaxation and well-being as in her classes!
Nina is a brilliant instructor with a deep understanding of yoga and is friendly and accommodating. She is able to relate to people from all walks of life. You should not miss the opportunity to attend one of her retreats.
Nina is the best yoga teacher I have ever experienced, you will not regret going on one of her amazing retreats!
