Sleep under a blanket of stars and the vast African skies, and then wake up suspended in a handcrafted and wildly unique treehouse! Breathe in the pure, charged air of an indigenous forrest, situated between a pristine white sand beach and a mangrove estuary. Experience the perfect balance of healthy living, the Watamu Treehouse way.
This is an all-inclusive yoga retreat package with daily yoga and adventure activities in nature, incredible fresh food, massage, and treehouse delights.
Watamu Treehouse is situated on one of the most picturesque stretches of Watamu beach. Built high in the trees, its unique architecture affords a 360 degree panorama of the Indian Ocean coastline on one side and native forest and mangrove esturary on the other. The Treehouse was handcrafted with love by owner, Paul Krystall and his daughter Aja. Paul is a yogi himself, and he created a space from a yogi's perspective - everything to curate a perfect yoga retreat is there, at your disposal, in magnificent natural surrounds. Through nutritious food, connection with the elements, yoga, meditation, adventures and rest, Paul and his dedicated and friendly staff motivate and guide others to be engaged with their body, mind and spirit.
Treehouse consists of two towers in the trees, linked by bridges, stairways and ramps. Most of the building was deliberately set above the beautiful coastal forest - for the stunning views and the cooling breeze, and also to avoid unnecessary damage to the natural environment.
The house has few windows - instead it features frames around vistas of nature in all its glory. You share the forest with the birds, insects, small mammals, reptiles and primates. The forest boasts many indigenous trees common to the coastal strip, including beautiful baobabs and many examples of the remarkable bamba-kofi. Both living and sleeping areas are situated just above the forest canopy, open to the cooling coastal breezes and the scintillating views. You sleep breathing the fresh air of the forest and awaken to the early morning calls of the wildlife - especially birds and sykes monkeys!
North (Kaskazi) Tower has three double bedrooms, each one self-contained with its own balcony, toilet and shower. Two of the bedrooms have beautiful 360 degree views of the sea and forest and all of Watamu - including the sunrise, sunset, and moonrise. The third bedroom does not face the sea, but has an incredible view of the forest and sunset.
South (Kuzi) Tower has 4 bedrooms, each of which have at least 2 beds, self-contained bathrooms, balconies, and private dining. All rooms overlook the sea and sunrise, and three of the rooms also look back to the sunset.
Treehouse is managed by Kingi Martin who has worked there for 18 years. Kingi sources the highest quality local produce and with his team, they produce 3 fresh meals a day. He cooks delicious vegetarian meals, smoothies and fresh juices, masala chai tea, fresh salads, soups and excellent sundowner bitings. Although the majority of food served on our retreat will be vegetarian/vegan, Kingi can provide fresh seafood dishes upon request.
Let Nina's intuitive and distinctive approach to yoga awaken your connection with nature, yourself and your inner peace. This retreat is intimate - it has been carefully and tastefully planned to make the most of the natural beauty of Watamu, and for this to be our inspiration. Feel the gentle ebb and flow of the Indian Ocean, and hear the sounds of exotic birds, monkeys and insects amidst the treetops as we enjoy our daily yoga sessions with breath-taking nature views. Delve deeper to experience meditation sessions each day.
The theme of this retreat is 'reflect and connect' - Nina will guide you through some creative expression and planning techniques in addition to the yoga.
Our retreat together at Watamu will include three afternoon adventure activities and two guided walks. Our adventures are likely to be (dependent on tide and weather), standup paddle board (SUP) trip, dolphin spotting/ snorkelling boat trip, and kayaking down the Mida Creek. Paul and his staff are equipped and trained to lead these adventures in a safe, inclusive and fun way.
In addition, there will be a full moon whilst we are on retreat! This means that we get to float with the spring tide as it rushes out of Mida Creek and into the sea. We will do this at sunset, followed by fresh juices/smoothies and healthy snacks on the beach.
Don't forget the adventuring can be internal as well as external, so do take the opportunity to find one of the many charming nooks and day beds in the Treehouse towers and relax! Everyone is encouraged to bring a journal and pen, and to engage in plenty of private down time in the tree canopy.
Contact Nina for the detailed schedule breakdown. Here is an example of the daily flow, depending on the forces of nature and our group, we'll also let inspiration guide us on some days!
Your retreat package also includes a free massage!
